An introduction to visual thinking as well as the elements and principles of design. Concentration of the elements of design through production of artwork using a variety of materials and methods. Emphasis placed on understanding the elements and principles of design and how they integrate to form fully realized works
For this project I was assigned to weave together my self-portrait and then incorporate friends and family into places such as the eyes, mouth, or nose. I chose to use my sister, my brothers and my mom. The picture of myself is in black and white while the pictures of my family are colored. I used them in places I felt like they had impacted me in my life.
For this assignment I was to replicate a fabric design on to a chair at the appropriate scale. This is the bigger size of the scale and as shown, it incorporates the appropriate colors and realistic rendering.
For the second part of this project, I was to use the same fabric and create the chair using it at a smaller scale. As shown, it is smaller stripes than the one above.
For this assignment, my group was assigned the task of creating two interior design banners that reflected the nature of interior design for those who would walk by the posters. For our posters, we decided to accomplish this by creating one room with two different style approaches to show the diversity within the major and how one room can be so different. This is the first side of the room, we used very pink and girly features and went with a classical look.
For the second banner, we decided to make it more modern and again, show the differences that one room can have.
In our research paper, we showed our approach, inspiration that came from other and explained our reasoning.
For this project I was to create a 3D design based on a 2D pattern that showed the fading and of one color. For my inspiration, I found this design pattern which would guide me through creating my 3D project.
I used paper that was printed in the different shades of the color I chose to create my shapes. I then glued the paper to black foam and repeated the process over and over, using the different shades.
Finally, I wrote a short summary explaining my process and reasoning.
The goal of the implied line assignment was to create a chair using only dots, no lines. By placing dots close together the mind can imply where the lines lay. Additionally, the dots can be used for shading and lack of dots for highlights. By only using dots, I was able to create this piece.
The goal of this assignment was to find all the letters of the alphabet within some theme. Themes could be flowers, art, exteriors of buildings, etc. My theme was paintings. I found these letter look-a-likes in Demoss, and Green Hall.
As described above, the letters were found in paintings and were found in the design of the painting, rather than as intended letters. This is the summary of my project above.
Rendering the same room twice, we were told to do an analogous color scheme and a complimentary color scheme. For the complimentary color scheme, I decided to use colors blue and orange. At first this seemed like a difficult task because I wanted to incorporate the colors into everything including the walls and floor. Although in the end I was able to accomplish this, I struggled to find a balance of the two colors that would result in the room not looking too dark or too bright. I was able to do this by using a dark tone of orange that seemed almost brown, and by using a brighter Gnt of blue that would have high contrast with the deep brown floors that also had a hint of the blue hue. For the analogous color schemed room, I used colors red, orange, and yellow. I used a deep red for bedding and carpet to contrast with the orange hue
wood flooring. The accents are a bight yellow and the secondary accents are orange such as the chair and lamps.
