The goal of the 'Color Theory' assignment is for students to create an artistic interpretation of the color wheel. Our designs were to include the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors included but reinterpreted in a creative way.
I accomplished these guidelines by painting a circular design of butterflies. Every butterfly has different tones of a singular color along with accents of the tertiary colors.
Using colored paper squares, we were assigned to represent each of the six gestalt theory laws. This assignment shows our understanding of each Gestalt Theory Law and can put it into application.
I first represented each of the laws on a blank piece of paper using the colored squares. Then, I scanned each law representation into my phone and removed the background with Canva, aligned them, labeled them for clarification.
The objective of this assignment was to create a project that physically moves white celebrating one or more of the tenants of Gestalt Theory and to provide a write up explaining how we achieved the project's goals.
After we decided that we wanted to do Law of Closure, we began making mind maps to generate ideas on how to begin and what we should include.
Once we created the mind map, we knew that we wanted to use fishing line to hold up origami flowers with an empty space in the shape of a cross in the middle. We knew that to make our idea work, we would need use a grid shape to make the project stronger and able to withhold interaction.
The final Construction of the project was successful. There is a definite Cross shape that is created by the law of closure, the flowers hung together nicely, and the project was moveable and endured the interaction it faced. It hung from the ceiling with ease and was covered properly. Although we struggled to get the flowers to stay on the fishing line initially, it was worth it in the end because the line is invisible.
For our project, we decided to use the Law of Closure Gestalt Theory tenant. In the write up, it explains how we used the design process phases to guide our decision making throughout the project. It also explains how we constructed the project and how we succeeded in making the project moveable and able to portray the law of closure.
For this assignment, we were to demonstrate one of the tenants of Meaning of Place Theory by creating an interactive and visual experience for people passing by. For our project, we decided to create the experience of going golfing. To generate ideas of what to include, we began by creating a mind map.
After creating the mind map, we knew what we wanted to incorporate into our project and began working on visual ideas. We came to the conclusion that we wanted to use a backdrop of a golf course and buy fake grass for the floor. We drew this out and included the elements that would be added on top such as golf clubs, a diffuser, a flag, sunscreen, bug spray, golf shoes, and more.
Next, to draw people in that are passing by, we created a poster explaining our purpose.
Finally, we put it all together for people to come experience our meaning of place theory for themselves. It was successful due to all the senses we were able to trigger including touch, smell, sound, and sight.
The goal of this project was to create a small model of a public space that has incorporated change theory. I chose the space Southington Care Center in Southington, CT and found their before and after pictures as inspiration.
Next, I researched what all the care center did to renovate including their reasonings and inspiration for design. I then wrote a short paper on the topic and was instructed to use a fun background.
Next, I wrote about how I would incorporate the change theory ideas into my project and how I would put it together.
Finally, I created the model using carboard, paper, pins, and paint. The left half shows the room before the renovation and the right half shows the room after the renovation.
